605 Balloon Tethered Ride
HOT AIR BALLOON TETHERED RIDES
WHAT IS A TETHERED BALLOON RIDE? A tethered balloon ride involves the balloon being secured to the ground with three very strong ropes, preventing it from drifting away. This setup allows for lifting and "flying" a large group of people of all ages at a specific location.
WHEN CAN WE TETHER? Tethered events can be conducted year-round, contingent upon suitable weather conditions. Inflation occurs only when winds are at 8 mph or below. Higher wind speeds make balloon control difficult and potentially unsafe. Moreover, the vicinity (within 50 miles) must be free of thunderstorm activities. The pilot has the final say on weather-related decisions.
WHAT TIME OF DAY? Optimal times for tethered as well as standard balloon flights are within 2 hours post-sunrise or pre-sunset, attributed to calmer wind conditions during these periods.
HOW MUCH TIME IS NEEDED FOR A TETHER? Typically, a tethered event spans 2-3 hours, with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 hours, influenced by factors like time of day, fuel capacity, and weather conditions. While the aim is to fulfill the contracted duration, adjustments may be made as necessitated by prevailing conditions.
HOW HIGH WILL WE FLY? Tethered flights generally ascend to heights between 25 to 75 feet, varying based on wind conditions, terrain, location, anchorage points, passenger count, among others. The precise altitude is determined by the pilot, based on conditions at the time of the event.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN RIDE IN THE BALLOON? Each flight accommodates 2 to 4 individuals, subject to their combined weight. During a standard tethered event, a balloon can lift 50 to 75 persons per hour.
WHO CAN FLY? Individuals in reasonable health capable of boarding and disembarking from the basket are eligible. Participants (or their legal guardians for minors) are required to sign a Hot Air Balloon Agreement – Assumption of Risk, Waiver of Liability, and Indemnification Agreement as provided by 605 Balloon Ride LLC prior to participation. The pilot and crew reserve the right to limit passenger numbers or eligibility. Restrictions apply to pregnant women and those unable to access the non-handicap-friendly basket.
WHERE CAN WE TETHER? The activity necessitates a clear area measuring at least 150’ x 150’, devoid of obstacles like debris, trees, light poles, bushes, and power lines. A space with a 200’ diameter is preferred. Secure anchorage for the balloon requires three substantial/heavy vehicles, readily movable as needed. While one large vehicle is provided by us, additional two, preferably SUVs or trucks, should be arranged by the participants, with keys accessible for any necessary adjustments.
